The Story So Far

Welcome to the Derby Soap Opera blog and website – a place for the people of Derby to find out all they need to know about QUAD’s Derby Soap Opera project, led by the amazing Italian artist and film maker Marinella Senatore. This is also a site that you can interact with – upload a film, post a comment, send us a story or a poem, and even contribute to the film sound track!

Lots of events and workshops have already taken place through February and March, with more to come! We’ve already involved hundreds of Derby people in our project – through talks and workshops led by Marinella and her brilliant assistants Ramon Alos Sanchez and Javier Lopez; as well as workshops and events led by local artists and performers – such as acting workshops by the brilliant Ben Spiller of the 1623 Theatre Company. A huge array of Derby people have tried out as actors and dancers for the film; many will become the crew and some will co-write the script. The Derby Soap Opera will be a 40 minute film set in Derby, inspired by Derby – with an operatic score, and dance numbers featuring local ballet and tap dancers.

Keep checking the site and this blog – we’ll post new items and developing news on a regular basis. For instance – just coming up, on the 31st of March – we’ll be at the Westfield centre from 9am to 7pm, spreading the word and filming people for this very website. Check out our EVENTS & WORKSHOPS page for many more exciting things that you can get involved with.

There are two ways you can join the discussion:

Record your film for Derby Soap Opera

All of these films, stories, poems and comments will be archived on this website, and may be used in the exhibition at QUAD (12th May - 8th July 2012) and also may influence the final film!
