Windows XP ( If supported by your sound card)

Not all sound cards support Microphone Boost. The simplest way to find out in Windows XP is to open the Windows Volume Control. If a speaker icon is displayed at the lower right hand corner of the Windows Desktop double-click it. If no speaker icon is displayed then click the Windows Start button and select “Run…” In the Open box enter sndvol32.exe and click the OK button. This will open the Windows Volume Control. Select “Advanced Controls” from the Windows Volume Control’s Options menu. You should see an “Advanced” button near the lower right hand corner of the Windows Volume Control screen. Click the Advanced button. If the “Advanced Controls for Microphone” screen shows a check box for “Microphone Boost” then check that box and click Close.

Macintosh – OSX Lion – Adobe Flash Player

If you are using OSX Lion you may have some problems with its compatibility with Adobe Flash. When you try to record a video contribution on the site you’ll notice that you’re presented with the Adobe Privacy settings dialog. However, it will not allow you to navigate away from that dialog once it’s opened. The selectors are disabled for the whole box. You’ll have to refresh the page to exit that dialog.

To rectify this problem download the latest Flash Player from Adobe. http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

After installation of the Flash Player, if you are still having problems follow these instructions:

1. If you’re stuck on the Adobe Flash Privacy dialog, refresh your page.

2. Right-click (or Control + Click) anywhere on the page and select “Global Settings…” (Note: You can also access your global Flash settings by navigating to System Preferences -> Flash Player)

3. Once you’ve opened the Flash Player Settings dialog, select the Camera and Microphone Settings by Site option.

4. You’re then presented with the Camera and Microphone Settings by Site dialog. We’re going to manually add our website to the list from here.

5. In order to add our media server website as safe site, click the plus icon [+]. Enter our website ‘ds-79892.ds-10.com’ into the Website Domain field. Select “Allow” from the dropdown. Click “Add”.

6. Now, our website will appear in your list as an Allowed Flash site. Click Close.

7. Refresh your page and access your webcam and microphone as you normally would. They will function as usual.
